*2Flower* To You

101 More Things Than You Want to Know About Me...and then some...

  1. I was born in New London, Connecticut.
  2. My name is Michelle in real life, but I go by the name 2flower online because "Twoflower" is usually taken by someone already.
  3. Twoflower was a character in Terry Pratchett's first 2 books. Although he was a male character, I liked him, and his name sounds effeminate anyway.
  4. I'm happily married to Scott. We were married in a Presbyterian church, and we were sealed in the Frankfurt, Germany temple a few years later after he joined my church.
  5. I have 5 beautiful children (b, g, g, b & b) from ages 18 to 9.
  6. I love pets and have 2 Shelties (my favorite breed of dog), 1 miniature dachshund, 3 cats, and 1 hamster. I wanted to be a vet when I was growing up.
  7. Our female Sheltie "Padme" sleeps in our bed, and she's the first pet I've ever been able to stand having in my bed. When my husband is in the shower in the mornings, I sing her "The Padi Song" I made up to the tune of the "Winnie-the-Pooh" theme. Her favorite part is the part about her being a "good girl." I think that's what happens when all the babies grow up, LOL.
  8. I stay at home as a homemaker & homeschool mom, and I love it. I wouldn't want to do anything else.
  9. My favorite color is purple ever since I outgrew pink at about 5 years old.
  10. I am always on the lookout to acquire some new purple thing.
  11. My birthday is March 11.
  12. My zodiac sign is Pisces, but for entertainment purposes only (I don't believe it really means anything.)
  13. I love to read, and my favorite books are Pride & Prejudice, Ivanhoe, Little Women, The Princess Bride, almost anything by Terry Pratchett or P.G. Wodehouse, The Harry Potter series, and much, much more.
  14. I am LDS, which is another way of saying I'm a Mormon, and a shorter way of saying that I belong to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. I was persecuted sometimes by kids at school for my religion, especially when I lived in South Carolina.
  15. I hardly ever watch TV (because we got rid of our satellite dish) (ha-ha, Scott got another one) except what we tape at my husband's office (there's cable and a VCR there) or movies we own or rent.
  16. My favorite TV shows are Seinfeld, Law & Order, and pretty much any episode of any Star Trek series (any generation). Plus, Whose Line Is It Anyway?
  17. I like talk radio a lot, especially Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity.
  18. I'm a proud member of the vast, right wing conspiracy. ;)
  19. I'm a conservative, in case the previous statement left you in any doubt.
  20. I wear a lot of dresses now, sometimes I wear dresses, but when I was younger I would only wear them on Sundays and special occasions.
  21. I'm pretty easily distracted and kind of lazy.
  22. I often need to use a timer to keep me on track -- when I remember to set the darn thing.
  23. I'm addicted to Coca-Cola. I used to be addicted to Dr. Pepper, until one day I wanted a Coke.
  24. I absolutely HATE the sound of squeaky styrofoam.
  25. I love living where I do now, in a rural wooded area on 10 acres, and over 1/4 mile down a bumpy, washed out dirt road. It's so quiet out here.
  26. I love the butterflies, hummingbirds rabbits and deer.
  27. I've lived in 7 states including 3 years in Hawaii (Oahu), and I lived in Germany for 3 years.
  28. My 3rd child (Charity) and 4th child (Ian) were born in Germany.
  29. My favorite singers/groups/music are Enya, Cocteau Twins & Clannad. I like Irish folk music, bagpipe music, and Riverdance-type music. Other than that, I take it on a song by song basis, enjoying many artists and genres. I also like a lot of 80's music and movie scores.
  30. And to add to the total incongruity of my musical tastes, I think Weird Al Yankovic is the greatest. He's extremely smart and talented.
  31. I played the violin for 6 years, but I don't even have one anymore, which is sad.
  32. I love to play video games (PC games). My favorites are simulation and strategy games, plus some free online puzzle games.
  33. Console games tend to give me a bad headache and sore hands. The only one I will play is Harvest Moon, but I can't take too much of the 3D graphics.
  34. I fall asleep when I drive on straight roads like the interstate, no matter what I do.
  35. My psychiatrist said it hypnotizes me, and that I could probably be easily open to hypnotism. (Although I've never tried it)
  36. I love to read aloud when I can find a willing audience, which is usually my son who is 17.
  37. My favorite number is 47, for no other reason than that I find it sounds good comedically.
  38. I hate the telephone, so I turn off the ringer and screen all my calls with the answering machine. Scott insisted on getting caller ID again because he hates talking to the answering machine. I still screen my calls, and sometimes I still turn off the ringer.
  39. I have one little brother who is 5 years younger than me.
  40. My brother and I didn't get along until we grew up. Now we're friends. My mother was right.
  41. I am closest to my mother.
  42. I was a packrat as a kid.
  43. I am overcoming my need to keep too much stuff, but it's an ongoing battle.
  44. I met my husband in a high school art class.
  45. Neither of us had met the prerequisites to be in the class, we both got in on artistic merit with special permission.
  46. We started dating near the end of that school year.
  47. Our first date was Scott's senior prom.
  48. He gave me a kiss goodnight at the door, and after that I could hardly find the doorknob.
  49. I've always been artsy-craftsy, and it runs in my family.
  50. I've been online since 1995.
  51. I'm a tightwad about most things.
  52. I collect books, especially classics.
  53. There was a big snow one winter in S.C. when I was a kid (which was really rare), and I built an igloo, even though my mother had told me that it couldn't be done. She's called me "igloo-girl" a lot of times because I try and succeed to do many things that surprise her.
  54. I am a do-it-yourself kind of person in many things.
  55. I use a lot of herbs and home remedies to take care of myself and my family.
  56. My family and I hardly ever go to the doctor.
  57. I even vaccinate my own pets.
  58. I love to learn new things, however I tend to throw myself into new things to the exclusion of other things.
  59. My late great-grandmother taught me how to crochet and embroider. I have a lot in common with her, as I always have several craft projects going.
  60. I'm a chocoholic, which means there's no such thing as too "too chocolatey".
  61. Christmas is my favorite holiday.
  62. I'm never ready for Christmas -- it always sneaks up on me.
  63. I wish it weren't so commercialized.
  64. I'm going to be a grandmother before I'm 38.
  65. I was very patriotic as a child.
  66. I wanted and got an American Flag for my 6th birthday.
  67. I used to cross the street in front of my house with it, and National Guard trucks would stop and salute, which I loved. Actually, I think the drivers were very amused -- I must have been kinda cute with my serious patriotism. ;)
  68. I collected lots of bugs, frogs, and small animals as a child.
  69. I'm a good cook, but I don't like to do it.
  70. I think midgets are really, really cute.
  71. I always wished I had a twin.
  72. I think identical twins are fascinating.
  73. I always wanted a sister.
  74. I really admire the Amish.
  75. I love to take naps, especially on Sunday afternoons.
  76. I think public school squashes kids' natural curiosity and love of learning, and monopolizes a huge chunk of their lives.
  77. I don't believe that learning can be forced, or that you can fill minds with information on a specific schedule, but that true learning comes from interest in the subject studied, and at a child's own pace.
  78. I know that most of what I know I learned outside of school, and because I was interested in the subject.
  79. I have "toe thumbs" that I inherited from my maternal grandmother -- an unfortunate genetic trait actually called stub thumb. She had one short, wide "toe thumb" and one normal thumb. I passed these on to one of my daughters. (She's as thrilled as I was) There is no press-on nail I've ever found that fits my thumb. I can cut the nails to fit if they are wide enough, but they hurt to wear because they are too curved for my nail.
  80. I hate horror movies and books.
  81. I also don't like to watch extreme violence.
  82. I hate obscenities, and I hardly ever use them. ;)
  83. I love words, and I have lots of favorite quotes, especially movie quotes.
  84. I love English literature, and I prefer most English authors over American authors (with a few exceptions.)
  85. I would love to travel to Great Britain and Ireland above any other places.
  86. I don't care at all about sports and don't watch or follow any of it, except that I like to watch some Olympic events.
  87. I'm growing my brown hair long & natural, even with the gray streaks in it. I don't care much for jewelry, with one exception. I love opals.
  88. I was very verbose at a young age, and my mom said I would shock people by saying things at 2, like "Hello, how are you today?"
  89. I hate cigarettes and smoking. When I was little I used to tell people that they would get lung cancer (which embarrassed my dad a lot.) I'm really sensitive to second-hand smoke. I also never had any desire to smoke because I saw how hard it was for my dad to quit. I was really proud of him for that.
  90. I remember some things about my early childhood vividly.
  91. I didn't sleep well as a child, probably because I had a vivid imagination.
  92. I would get up before the crack of dawn, make myself breakfast, and play and watch cartoons as a very young child -- think Matilda without the books, and with nicer parents.
  93. I hated the school bus so bad that I walked home from school one day when I was 6. It was pretty far, but I knew the way, and I made it home well before the bus. The mailman saw me and ratted me out. I think I got the spanking of my life for that. It didn't make sense to me why I wasn't allowed to do it -- I knew the way home. (It does now)
  94. I remember thinking in first grade on the bus to school what a terrible waste of my time school was, and how wrong it was to be forced to go. I even remember where I was when I thought it.
  95. I'm very honest, but pretty good at bluffing for jokes and games. I would be good on "To Tell the Truth."
  96. I make a lot of people laugh in an impromptu way, but I can't retell someone else's joke. I can never remember them well enough or get the timing right.
  97. I directed 2(one I wrote, and one I helped write) Road Shows (15 minute musical comedies) for our church's youth group. They won overall both times in our Stake (group of LDS churches in the region).
  98. I've broken 2 bones -- my arm when I was 5 (riding my bike before I learned to use the brake) by running into the side of the house, and my thumb by slamming it in the truck's door when I was about 9.
  99. My husband is my best friend, and my mom is my next best friend. I don't usually take the trouble to maintain other close friendships, although I do know people I would consider to be friends.
  100. In 2002 decided to take care of my clinical depression and take prescription medication for it. I'd recommend that to anyone who deals with depression, as we can't do everything in the world all by ourselves. I did it for my husband and kids as much as for me. It's making a tremendous difference for me.
  101. I believe that each of us is a child of God, and he knows us and loves us individually more than we can imagine.
